Last week, we had an excellent post about what our !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! would include and that got me thinking about a new question. If given a budget of $3 million, how you spend it? Would you spend it all on one very special car or spread it out among many? Would you buy all classics, all modern, or a combination of the two? Would you be loyal to one or a few brands or have a wide variety? Here are some cars to get you thinking:

I would buy tons of cars: old and new, auto and manual, slow and fast, big and small, etc.

Kinja'd!!!2

Rather than blowing the money all in one go I would buy a car and then replace it with a new car every 6-12 months to match my fancy. This way I don't just have a bunch sitting in a garage gathering dust and I get to try a bunch of different cars.

Kinja'd!!! $kaycog > CAcoalminer

Kinja'd!!!2

I would be loyal to one brand......... I think . That's a lot of money. I would start off with a Ford GT40 and a Ford GT. I really like the Fords of the 50's and 60's, so I'd have a bunch of them............T-Birds, Mustangs and even an Edsel. I'd probably have a tough time spending $3 million.

Eagle E-Type .7 mill , Singer 911 .35 mill , Carrera GT .6 mill , 458 Speciale .4 mill, 911 GT3 RS .2 mill, Tesla P85D .12 mill, then use the last .6 mill for a really nice SUV for the wife and a project/track car and paying someone to upkeep all the cars besides the project cars I want to work on myself.

Kinja'd!!!1

Interesting question....Also, I've never seen a TZ1 in that color. Fantastic.

Kinja'd!!!

Alfa GTAm, I'd estimate they're around $100k nowadays for a car in the above condition.

Kinja'd!!!

Of course I'd import an M600. I think they're on the Show & Display exception list, but I'm not too sure. A LHD example would set me back around $500k everything considered.

Kinja'd!!!

I've very recently started to lust for a Series Land Rover quite badly, so it's on this list as well. A sorted restored example should be around $40k.

Kinja'd!!!

Since the Series Rover won't be able to tow much (or go over 65mph), I'll need a car that can do both. Also I'd get the LWB just in case I need to sleep in it. Around $120k I think?

Kinja'd!!!

Spec Miata w/ trailer, around $20k.

Kinja'd!!!

Fiesta rally car. Around $70k.

And I'd use the rest of the money to buy many acres of land somewhere in upstate NY, and make a small rally stage for shakedowns.

Or I'd just spend it all on a Huayra, and use the rest to convince Horacio to put a manual in it.

Kinja'd!!!2

I wouldn't spend it all on one car, it'd probably be just a few cars in various different price points.

With $3 Million I'd probably pick

Ferrari F40

Ferrari F12

Ford GT

Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0

Ferrari F430 (with gated manual)

Ferrari 512 TR

Porsche Cayman GTS

Ariel Atom (or maybe a Caterham)

Some kind of hot hatch (VW Golf R, Focus RS, STI (if they ever make it a hatchback again...))

That should be pretty close to $3M, I don't think I went over.

Kinja'd!!! PushToStart > CAcoalminer
01/31/2015 at 13:51

Kinja'd!!!1

They're all mostly modern (besides the 512 TR and F40) but besides the F12, they'd all be manual transmission cars and would have a more or less "analog" feel.

Not sure how close to $3M that got me, but if I had enough room left, I would throw in some kind of convertible, maybe a new 911 Targa, or if I don't have that much money left, a Lotus Elise.

He's the richest Jalop we know of.

His collection:

Ferrari 458 Speciale

Koenigsegg Agera (not sure which spec)

He did have an order on A FUCKING PORSCHE 918!!!! But, then cancelled it because "it wasn't exciting enough", thus he purchased his Agera which will be the SECOND AGERA EVER IN THE US.

Pagani Huarya

He traded in an MP4-12C for the 458 Speciale.

I think he may have a W222 S600 but I'm not sure.

Kinja'd!!!1

This was actually much more difficult than I anticipated. It's a mix of classic/new, practical/specialized.. I actually struggled to use the whole $3M without just thinking up million dollar hypercars to chew up space.

I'd start with a Porsche 911 from Singer - $450,000

Kinja'd!!!

1970 Nissan GT-R - $60,000

Kinja'd!!!

Ferrari 458 Speciale - $285,000

Kinja'd!!!

1969 Ford Bronco - $35,000

Kinja'd!!!

Mclaren P1 - $1,150,000

Kinja'd!!!

2013 Rs4 Avant - $85,000

Kinja'd!!!

2014 911 Carerra GTS - $125,000

Kinja'd!!!

2013 C63 AMG - just for that sound - $85,000..

Kinja'd!!!

Total $2,275000

I decided to save a few hundred thousand for maintenance.. and maybe have enough left over for the new Ford GT when it's released. This was fun.

Kinja'd!!! CAcoalminer > K-Roll-PorscheTamer
01/31/2015 at 14:42

Kinja'd!!!0

No. You can use it on anything you want. For instance, some people saved a portion for maintenance, land, and/or buildings.

Kinja'd!!! K-Roll-PorscheTamer > CAcoalminer
01/31/2015 at 14:51

Kinja'd!!!1

Because I'd honestly invest some of that into a house with a large four-car garage with space to work on cars. Cabinets of tools of different varieties. some more invested into some shares or stocks.

After all that's invested, then I can look into cars, only if I have that kind of money; but that now brings me to my current predicament.

You see, I got a ride in the newish CTS-V last night. And that automatic was fantastic. The power delivery was so linear and so amazing, you couldn't feel going from 30-95mph like a speeding bullet train on wheels.

This is very conflicting for me. Whether or not I want an automatic or manual next.

01/31/2015 at 17:18

That's wonderful to hear. How was the sound?

Personally, I think you should give the automatic a chance. The newer ones are quite good, like you described, and anyone who would ridicule you for picking the auto is just being ridiculous.

01/31/2015 at 17:31

The sound was rather subtle. It wasn't loud or shouting in your face. It was noticeable, but not crazy.

Isn't it a DCT? I never checked, but I'd love any car with DCT and paddles.
